Olympic gold medalist, Gable Steveson, has confirmed that he has signed a three-year contract with WWE. Steveson signed a NIL contract, which means he will still be able to compete at the college level at the University of Minnesota.
Gable Steveson spoke with Ariel Helwani on The MMA Hour to discuss the details of his contract. “[Whether I wrestle in them – the 2024 Olympics] just depends how my contract goes,” answers Steveson. “I can’t say too much. I don’t know what I’m going to do yet. That’s a longways away. It is three years, but I’m always ready. It all depends on my obligation with the WWE. After this year I’m 100% with the WWE. And if I re-sign, I’m 100% with them. I’m not the boss of the situation, so I can’t say.” (h/t Wrestling Inc.’s Drew Rice for the transcription)
Steveson also discussed which brand he will end up on when he eventually becomes full-time with WWE. “There is, I think, there is a very big chance I might go straight to the main roster and not go to NXT,” revels Steveson. “I was open to anything, but with the way things are going, I think I’m going to jump straight to the main roster. And I know there’s a lot to learn and I’m ready to soak everything in like a sponge and just be ready to go out and put a good show on for the crowd.” (h/t Wrestling Inc.’s Drew Rice again for the transcription)
Plenty of excitement surrounds Gable Steveson
Comparisons will be made between Gable Steveson and Kurt Angle moving forward. Both are Olympic gold medalists and have a huge passion for pro-wrestling. For Steveson, he will still be allowed to continue his college wrestling career before stepping into a WWE ring full-time.
WWE wanted to snap the 21-year old up early to make sure they had one of the biggest prospects under their wing. Angle picked up WWE very quickly, and the same will be expected of Steveson. It is definitely an exciting time and the WWE are really hyped about securing such a talent of Gable’s quality.
