Since joining WWE in 2011, Cesaro has earned the respect of the fans thanks to his bell-to-bell consistency as a wrestler.
Sure, some were already familiar with “The Swiss Superman’s” exploits in Ring of Honor and other promotions, but even those who never watched his pre-WWE work have come to appreciate the 21-year veteran’s in-ring body of work.
Now positioned as one of the top babyfaces on SmackDown, Cesaro has positioned himself as something of a hardworking everyman whose connection with the fans is based around a shared passion for the sport. It is this renewed momentum that had gotten him a Universal Championship match, and he apparently has big plans for the title if he wins.
Cesaro talks about wanting to embark on something of a “reunion tour” if he wins the Univeral Championship.
Speaking with Sports Illustrated, Cesaro talked about wanting to defend the Univeral Championship all over the world, once it’s safe to have more shows in front of paying fans while tying it in with Roman Reigns’ “head of the table” moniker (h/t to Fightful’s Robert DeFelice for the transcription):
“I mean, I don’t want to belong at a table he’s at. I have my own table. His table is very small, I feel like my table would be big so the whole WWE Universe can share it with me. You got to spread the wealth. When I become Universal Champion, I want to share that championship with everybody around the world. Hopefully, by that point, we can start traveling again soon and I can defend that title all over the world. Bring it everywhere and kind of do a happy reunion tour with our WWE Universe.”
Cesaro will get his chance to become the Universal Champion when he faces Roman Reigns at WrestleMania Backlash this Sunday. It will mark the first time Cesaro has ever participated in a one-on-one match for any of WWE’s men’s world championships.
