During last week’s SmackDown, Universal Champion Roman Reigns debuted a new theme song, marking the end of the same theme music he had used since his debut as part of the Shield in 2012. According to Reigns’ advocate Paul Heyman during an interview with Complex, the idea of the change had been to completely end Reigns’ association with the Shield. This is the same reason that Reigns changed his in-ring gear and the rest of his look.
Reigns and Heyman have been paired together since Reigns’ return to WWE in August 2020. The pair has been successful, with Reigns winning the Universal Title in his first match back at Payback and holding it ever since. Heyman has described himself as the advocate for Reigns and has done various things that Reigns demands of him. Reigns is scheduled to defend the Universal Title against Cesaro at WrestleMania Backlash.
