The Women’s Revolution has changed the way the wrestling world works and that is one of the best changes to take place in wrestling in a very long time. Women’s wrestling has come a long way in just a few years but there are a lot of women who helped pave the way for the current generation. Some of those women are still around, but now one of them is hanging up her boots.
Former WWE and NWA Women’s Champion Jazz officially announced her retirement from the ring this week during Impact wrestling. This comes after Jazz was defeated by Knockouts Champion Deonna Purrazzo in a title vs. career match at Hardcore Justice last Saturday. Jazz also thanked her partner in Impact Wrestling, Jordynne Grace, who was standing next to her, as well as the company itself.
Jazz began her career in the late 1990s for ECW before moving on to WWE in 2001. She would win the WWE Women’s Title twice and become a mainstay of the women’s division during the Ruthless Aggression Era. Jazz would later move on to the independent circuit, including a nine hundred plus day reign as the NWA World Women’s Champion. There is no word on what she plans to do after her retirement in the ring.
This was pretty special. Check out Jazz’s retirement speech and her time in the ring:
