AEW Rankings (Apr. 14, 2021): Christian can use Taz to his advantage

AEW released their latest rankings (Apr. 14, 2021). Let’s check out the movers and shakers.

Men:

Say hello to Will Hobbs. The powerhouse popped in at #5. This one took me by surprise, because I don’t remember the last time he had a singles match. Hobbs defeated Brandon Cutler on the debut episode of Dark: Elevation airing on March 15. I suspect rankings manipulation is afoot. My theory is that Christian Cage turns down the offer to join Team Taz, but he will agree that they could help him train. Thus, Christian will wrestle Hobbs as a steeping stool into the top 5. That’s my theory.

Max Caster failed his big test against Hangman Page last week on Dynamite. He dropped out from #3. Jungle Boy and Cody Rhodes both moved up a spot accordingly. Darby Allin will defend the TNT Championship against Matt Hardy in Falls Count Anywhere tonight on Dynamite.

Women:

The women’s rankings is a murderers’ row at the moment. You snooze, you lose. Ryo Mizunami was #3. She did not wrestle for one week and was given the boot. Dr. Britt Baker DMD and Nyla Rose were boosted up one spot each. Thunder Rosa earned a quality win over Diamante on Dark: Elevation to elevate into #5.

Baker actually earned two wins from the Dark shows. She really is playing AEW’s game to rise up the cockamamie system. I’m expecting Jade Cargill to defeat Red Velvet tonight on Dynamite. That would leave Tay Conti as Baker’s last hurdle into the #1 spot and a title shot against Hikaru Shida.

Tag Team:

Varsity Blonds? Varsity Blonds! Griff Garrison and Brian Pillman Jr. are ranked for the first time. They took Bear Country’s spot at #4, who lost to Jurassic Express. The Pinnacle must be steaming. FTR has two head-to-head victories from 2020 and a trios win over the Blonds in 2021. Last year’s success doesn’t hold much weight right now, however, FTR is clearly the better duo.

The Young Bucks will defend the tag titles against the formidable pair of PAC and Fenix tonight on Dynamite. Fenix earned the opportunity by winning a battle royale. That match should tear the house down.

Do you agree with AEW’s rankings this week? If not, what would you change?
