AEW announced the addition of the Big Show, along with a new show on YouTube, AEW Dark: Elevation.
All Elite Wrestling continues to roll out big news in 2021 and that continued with the announcement of a new show and the Big Show, Paul Wight, jumping to the company. This signing, along with the new, weekly content, was revealed by the promotion via a press release that circulated on Wednesday.
“It’s been amazing to watch what AEW has built in just a couple of years,” Wight said via the release. “AEW Dark is an incredible platform to hone the skills of up-and-coming wrestling, but I also love that established AEW talent can build on their personalities and showcase themselves on new ways in Dark.”
The emphasis on Dark is important because that is exactly where Wight will be involved. On top of his return to the ring, he will work as the commentator for the company’s newest show: AEW Dark: Elevation.
AEW Dark: Elevation will air on Mondays at 7 pm eastern standard time on the AEW YouTube channel. According to the release the show “will showcase AEW’s established and rising stars, as well as top independent wrestlers within the industry, competing against each other in the ring in the pursuit of wins.” The show will maintain continuity with the rest of AEW content including Dark, Dynamite and the PPV schedule. The first air date of AEW Dark: Elevation was not announced.
“Paul Wight is one of the most recognizable and impressive professional athletes in the world,” said Tony Khan via the release. “He wanted to come to AEW because he believes that we’re the best promotion in wrestling, and we believe that he has a lot to offer us, both in the ring as a wrestler, and also outside the ring as a commentator, host and ambassador for AEW.”
Wight is best known for spending nearly 30 years in the industry, most notably in the WWE and WCW where he was a multiple-time champion and featured in major storylines with the likes of Steve Austin, Triple H and The Undertaker.
