MSK won the Men’s Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic at NXT TakeOver: Vengeance Day and earned a lot of praise from Triple H.
It says a lot when a new performer steps into WWE and is catapulted to a top slot. Names such as Ric Flair and AJ Styles were immediately elevated in such a way, but it does not happen very often. MSK picked up a big when at NXT TakeOver: Vengeance Day and with their performance in the tournament, and Triple H’s words during the post-show media call (audio provided by Fightful), they have earned high praise within the locker room and WWE leadership.
MSK, known as the Rascalz in Impact, made the move to WWE after being signed in late 2020. Many fans had some anxiety around the signing of a popular team because WWE has not utilized its tag team division well, but these two broke through that barrier immediately.
“Those two are sponges,” Triple H said when asked about MSK’s performance. “I said this to them tonight when they were done, ‘We give you bits and pieces of opportunity and you’ve knocked each opportunity out of the park’. It’s not because they knew it all is walking in the door, it’s because they are sponges.”
MSK debuted as a part of the 2021 Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic. After an exceptional debut against Isiah Swerve and Jake Atlas, it was clear that WWE saw something in Wes Lee and Nash Carter. They continued to excel in each match, but there was still apprehension around the idea whether not WWE would push them through to the Dusty Cup. Thankfully, that apprehension did not come out at the end as they took the Cup after a dramatic match against Grizzled Young Veterans in the finals.
“Part of being coached, is wanting to be coached. When you are open to it, and when you are a sponge to it and I cannot say it enough that is MSK to a T,” Triple H said. “That’s why they’ve succeeded to the level that they have. We gave them a whiff of an opportunity and they grabbed it. It was a breath of fresh air. They were the spark. Back to form in the tag team division.”
The form of tag team wrestling that NXT was known for brought out teams like American Alpha, the Revival, DIY, and plenty others. MSK, along with the likes of Grizzled Young Veterans, Legado del Fantasma, the Lucha House Party, Oney and Lorcan, plus many others are steps in the right direction to help return this division and NXT as a whole back into what made it so enjoyable amongst fans.
